Every European distributor we supply asks the same question: which screw actually survives outdoors? The honest answer isn't "the cheapest one" — it's about material, coating and thread design working together. As a screw factory, here's how we guide buyers.

Why outdoor screws fail

Outside, a screw fights rain, humidity, UV and the chemicals in treated timber. Plain untreated steel fails fast under repeated wet–dry cycles — surface rust spreads, strength drops, and the joint lets go. For any external job you need three things: corrosion resistance, enough strength, and a drive that won't cam out.

The three families that hold up

1. Stainless steel (A2 / A4) Chromium in the steel forms a self-healing passive layer, so it resists rust even when scratched. A2 (304) covers most outdoor work; A4 (316) is the call for coastal and marine sites where salt air is constant. Best where the screw stays visible and good-looking.

2. Galvanised (zinc-coated) A zinc layer sacrifices itself before the steel does. Ideal with pressure-treated timber, which is corrosive to bare fasteners. Hot-dip galvanising is the heavy-duty choice for structural outdoor work.

3. Decking / timber screws Built for outdoor wood and the chemicals in pressure-treated boards. Supplied in stainless or coated carbon steel, with a coarse thread that bites hard and stays put.

Our outdoor line

Our Tianyu outdoor screws use hardened carbon steel with a corrosion-resistant coating (black or silver option), a combined twin/single thread for fast, even driving, and Pozi or Torx drives so the head sits flush without slip-out. We supply distributors by the box or pallet, and accept custom orders on material, coating, thread form and drive type.

How to pick the right one

  • Match the environment – coastal and marine sites need A4 stainless or a high-spec coating; inland jobs can use zinc.
  • Watch material compatibility – wrong metal pairings cause galvanic corrosion. We'll match the screw alloy to your substrate.
  • Choose the drive – Pozi and Torx transfer more torque and resist cam-out; better for outdoor fitting.
  • Size to the load – longer, thicker screws for structural timber; check gauge against material thickness.

Q: Which screw do you recommend for coastal or marine European projects? A: For salty, high-humidity sites we recommend A4 (316) stainless or our salt-spray-tested coated screws. Plain zinc won't hold up long term in that environment.

Q: Can you supply outdoor screws to our spec or coating requirement? A: Yes. As a factory we accept custom orders on material, coating (including our black/silver corrosion-resistant finish), thread form and drive type — from drawing or sample.
